UCD is committed to developing a gender action plan in 2014–2016 for women in science and research. In 2014 the HEA provided funding to extend the Athena Swan Charter programme into Ireland from the UK. UCD appointed a dedicated gender action programme manager in June 2014 to support University College Dublin’s participation and develop a plan for women in science and research in UCD. A diversity of perspectives through the participation of female researchers will enrich our approach to creating knowledge and solving societal problems. 58% 42 % In Europe women make up In UCD women make up In Europe women make up In UCD women make up 48% 51% 18% 23% PROFESSORS PROFESSORS PHDS PHDS Academic Staff: Core and Contract (FTE) The total number of academic staff at UCD has decreased by 9% from 2004- 2013. Academic staff reached a peak of 1,813 full time equivalents in 2008 and by 2013 had declined by 24%. Some of this reduction is due to a reclassification of staff type from academic to non-academic, but is also the result of a significant reduction in academic staff.
