UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Magazine salutes Herbert Chen, M.D., professor of surgery and
chair of the UAB Department of Surgery where he holds the Fay Fletcher Kerner Endowed Chair. He also
serves as senior advisor to the director of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Chen specializes in
the research and treatment of endocrine and neuroendocrine cancers, for which he is internationally
recognized and has received numerous awards and honors. In his spare time, he enjoys golf and boating.
He and his wife Harriet have two children and make their home in Mountain Brook.
