Cancer Center Delegation Visits Egypt
In June, a team of representatives from the UAB
Comprehensive Cancer Center traveled to Alexandria,
Egypt, as part of the Globalization and Cancer Initiative, in
partnership with Alexandria Regional Centre for Women’s
Health and Development. The Cancer Center’s globalization
initiative was launched in 2014 with the goal of facilitating the
expansion of existing international partnerships and developing
new global relationships associated with cancer health
disparities.
Metro Sertoma Makes Annual
Donation
Birmingham’s Metro Sertoma Club recently made its annual
contribution to the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.
This year’s donation of $5,000 continues Metro Sertoma’s
longstanding tradition of supporting cutting-edge research at
the Cancer Center. Pictured here is Steve Scorey presenting the
check to Janet Eary, M.D., professor of radiology and Cancer
Center senior scientist.

On September 25, the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer
Foundation hosted a special event at The Club to benefit the
Cancer Center’s Division of Gynecologic Oncology. Funds raised
from the “Charlie’s Angels” event will be used toward creating the
Brittany Waldrep Endowed Lectureship for Gynecologic Cancer,
which will bring international experts in the field of GYN cancer
to Birmingham to share their research with UAB physicians and
scientists. Guests enjoyed an inspirational presentation by keynote
speaker Edie Hand, as well as a fashion show featuring several
physicians from the gynecologic oncology division.
