The Cancer Center’s globalization initiative was launched in 2014 with the goal of facilitating the expansion of existing international partnerships and developing new global relationships associated with cancer health disparities. Metro Sertoma Makes Annual Donation Birmingham’s Metro Sertoma Club recently made its annual contribution to the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. This year’s donation of $5,000 continues Metro Sertoma’s longstanding tradition of supporting cutting-edge research at the Cancer Center. This year’s Director’s Circle will honor Dolly O’Neal, co-founder of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama and former director of development for the Cancer Center, who passed away in May after a lengthy battle with breast cancer (see page 32). Funds raised from the “Charlie’s Angels” event will be used toward creating the Brittany Waldrep Endowed Lectureship for Gynecologic Cancer, which will bring international experts in the field of GYN cancer to Birmingham to share their research with UAB physicians and scientists.
