GIVING TO
TO THE CENTER
There are a variety of ways to give to the
UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. All
donations are tax-deductible as allowed by
law and may be designated for the cancer
or research area of your choice. Every dollar
stays here in Birmingham and is directly
applied to cancer research and treatment.
Donations may be made by visiting the
Cancer Center’s Web site, uab.edu/cancer,
or by calling the Office of Development and
Community Relations at (205) 934-1603.
For almost 10 years, Ed Partridge
has been the leader of the UAB
Comprehensive Cancer Center—all during
a time of tremendous growth for the
center.
During this time, Ed has been a
transformative figure in expanding
and enhancing the center through his
leadership and faculty support. Under his
guidance, the center has distinguished
itself as a hub of innovation and
advancement in cancer care and research.
The UAB Cancer Center was one of
the first 11 in the country formed as a
National Cancer Institute-designated
comprehensive cancer center. This means
that we have undergone a rigorous
review by the NCI, allowing us to create
an infrastructure to utilize state-of-the-
art technology and provide advanced
care to our patients.
Ed has set the standard for providing
exceptional patient care. He is an
outstanding physician, clinician-scientist,
and educator who has devoted his life’s
work to eliminating health disparities in
cancer care. Ed has been the recipient
of numerous prestigious grants and
awards, many of which focus on our
most underserved areas throughout
the southeast, and has earned national
and international acclaim for his efforts
to combat health disparities in cancer
care. He is also highly regarded for
his unwavering dedication to caring
for patients with cancer, particularly
gynecological malignancies.
Ed has developed invaluable partnerships
with other regional hospitals and
institutions to create a network that
brings UAB cancer care closer to home
for patients. He has established trainee
programs with historically minority
colleges. And most of all, he has steered
this organization with determination and
a collaborative spirit necessary for the
success of a matrixed cancer center.
Recently, Ed directed the renewal of our
comprehensive cancer core grant, setting
the stage for our continued success.
Thank you for your dedication and many
contributions to UAB and the cancer
health care landscape, Ed. You have truly
embodied the role of this institution.
