RESOURCES FACULTY Benjamin Wei, MD, is assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University before continuing on to Columbia College of Physicians & Surgeons, where he received his medical degree in 2005. Following medical school, he completed an internship and residency in general surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia from 2005 through 2010 and a cardiothoracic fellowship at Duke University from 2010 to 2013. He came to UAB in August 2013. Dr. Wei has helped develop multiple resources for cardiothoracic and surgical trainees, including a leading general surgery oral board review book and the Thoracic Surgical Residents Association (TSR) Journal Club application. Dr. Wei also directs the didactic experience for UAB residents and medical students in general thoracic surgery. Dr. Wei’s clinical and research interests include robotic-assisted and video assisted thoracic, lung and esophageal cancer surgery, surgery for gastroesophageal reflux disease, paraesophageal hernias, esophageal motility disorders, chest wall reconstruction for pectus excavatum/carinatum, and lung transplantation. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, General Thoracic Surgical Association, Jefferson County Medical Society, Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and Southern Thoracic Surgical Association. CARDIAC SURGERY CRITICAL CARE Scott (Chris) Bellot, MD, is assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of South Alabama and his medical degree from UAB. He completed residencies at the University of South Alabama and Ochsner Foundation Hospital, and he completed his fellowship at UAB. He has practiced medicine in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. His clinical and research interests include adult cardiac surgery, surgical critical care, and trauma surgery.
