CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE
UAB’s congenital cardiac surgery program is one of the oldest of its kind in the nation, having been founded in
1966 by one of the fathers of congenital heart surgery, John W. Kirklin, MD. The institution continues to enjoy
the world-class reputation developed by Dr. Kirklin, thanks to our exceptional team of congenital heart surgeons
and intensivists, who work closely with pediatric cardiologists in caring for young patients. We provide surgical
treatment of every conceivable congenital cardiac condition, and our outcomes are excellent.
