Robert Flude, President of Martin Binder Jeweler, says
his families’ store has grown from the small watchmaking
shop his grandfather opened in 1940 to their new freestanding store because their jewelry buyers travel the world,
manufacture the jeweler’s own signature designs, and buy
loose diamonds direct from the source.
to their world community. FOREVERMARK is known for
their ideal cut, responsibly sourced diamonds: This means
that throughout their journey, from rough to polished
diamonds, particular care is taken to ensure responsible
business practices support the advancement of women and
protection of the natural world.
"We travel beyond Antwerp now, as the finest diamonds
are shipped to and cut in Asia. We have a manufacturing
company there and are also fortunate to have a good
relationship with the world’s major diamond sightholders.
We buy direct from them," says Flude. He says this buying
strategy allows Martin Binder's to beat or match pricing
from any diamond retailer, wholesaler, or internet diamond
seller. The Valparaiso jeweler is also known for their large
selection of Rolex watches, engagement rings, and high
quality service.
Lastly, Flude says that Truth in Pricing is a big part of the
company’s mission statement. He says the jewelry at Martin
Binder is not inflated for markdowns, like some other big
jewelers, and their in-case pricing reflects a commitment to
bringing the best values to Northwest Indiana, with honesty,
and integrity.
Martin Binder also supports local organizations, donating
tens of thousands of dollars in products and services every
year. On a more global scale, Flude says Martin Binder
partners with vendors who are socially and ecologically
minded.
"Most people don’t know that I diamond mined in West Africa
for over three years. I had my own company, learned a lot,
and hired many local families who were struggling to feed
their families. The mining people depend on their diamond
companies to do the right thing, and provide for them." Flude
says that his experience in West Africa helped in his decision
to bring in FOREVERMARK diamonds, part of The De Beers
Group of Companies, and a diamond company attentive
The jeweler sets diamonds in engagement rings from
A.Jaffe, Gabriel & Co., or their own manufactured brand, Yes!
by Martin Binder engagement settings. Bridal clients also
receive a complimentary Binder Brides gift basket, a free
cruise package with engagement ring purchase*, and 20%
off their wedding band purchases and 15% off bridal party
gifts.
Martin Binder also has an impressive selection of popular
and affordable jewelry from PANDORA and Alex and Ani,
with prices starting at $28.
"We wrap everything," says Flude. "It doesn’t matter whether
someone is buying a $30,000 engagement ring or a $30
charm. Quality doesn’t have to be expensive and we treat
everyone the same. It’s all about creating that special
memory when someone opens up one of our Binder boxes."
