Oda a la piña: Ode to the Pineapple

*Inspirado por (Inspired by) Pablo Neruda*

By Vienna Giacchè

To you, food so mysterious,

your exterior frightens me

because it can be harmful.

You are sharp,

pointed,

hard,

and your green crown,

is untouchable.

It is essential to be cautious

when I hold you in my arms.

For people who do not understand you,

you can appear intimidating,

but I know

that you are the sweetest of all fruits.

You cannot trick me.

You are misunderstood,

which is why maybe some do not appreciate you.

Your interior is yellow,

like the center of a daisy,

like the sun that shines,

everyday,

stronger.

When I eat you,

I am ecstatic

because you are juicy

and your sweet taste

surprises me,

every time.

You are watery

and sticky,

but so rich with nutrients

that boost our health.

I want to eat you

until the end,

because you are

exotic,

tropical

and fascinating.

A ti, comida tan misteriosa,

tu exterior me da miedo

porque puede hacer daño.

Eres puntiaguda,

afilada,

dura,

y tu corona verde,

es intocable.

Es esencial tener cuidado

cuando te tengo en mis brazos.

Para las personas que no te entienden,

puedes parecer intimidante,

pero yo sé

que tu eres la más dulce de las frutas.

No me puedes engañar.

Eres una incomprendida,

quizás algunos no te aprecian.

Tu interior es amarillo,

como el centro de una margarita,

como el sol que brilla,

cada día,

más fuerte.

Cuando te como,

estoy extática

porque eres jugosa

y tu sabor dulce

me sorprende,

cada vez que te como.

Eres un poco aguada

y pegajosa,

pero eres rica

de nutrientes

que benefician nuestra salud.

Yo quiero comerte

Hasta el fin,

porque eres

exótica,

tropical

y fascinante.
