She Looks Gorgeous (For a Chubby Girl)

Mindy has made no secret of her consciousness and acceptance that she is by no means reaching Hollywood’s, or for that matter, society’s standards of beauty and is very capable of joking about herself and her weight problems on her successful show “The Mindy Project”, a brilliant comedy show that demonstrates the struggles encountered in the dating world by a young, chubby, female doctor in today’s society; but this does not mean she doesn’t try at all to meet these standards.

Referring to her Topshop dress that she wore at PaleyFest she discussed the various feedback she got from fans (and haters). People shame others, especially women, for wearing outfits or dresses that show off their bodies and don’t cover them up unless they are super skinny and many times will be surprised if someone who does not meet the ideal weight that society sets, actually looks good in these outfits! Discussing the incident she said, "Some people were pretty mean about it, but then some people were like, 'She's just so courageous!' Aren't surgeons courageous?" Needless to say Mindy is not “courageous” for wearing a beautiful dress that shows off her mid-drift because she looked beautiful in it regardless of her size and weight, and the best part is…that her external beauty comes along with a brain too!

Speaking about it in her typical comical-tinged-with-sardonic fashion on Jimmy Kimmel, Mindy said, "I also am the recipient of a lot of backhanded compliments about it, where people are like, 'It's so nice that Mindy Kaling doesn't feel she needs to subscribe to the ideals of beauty that other people do.' And I'm like, 'I do subscribe!' They're like, 'It's so refreshing that Mindy feels comfortable to let herself go and be a fat sea monster.' By the way, I like, run and work out. It takes a lot of effort to look like a normal/chubby woman. The way they talk about it, it's like, 'She's a pioneer because she's glued to her sofa.'"

Funny gal, Dartmouth graduate, Mindy Kaling was on Jimmy Kimmel a few weeks ago discussing some very, I guess we could call, “prevalent” issues in her life that include being a recipient of backhanded compliments which she often receives from fans. Of course we all know that being in the spotlight is a pretty tricky thing with the high standards that society places on girls and women all over the world but it is especially tough for those Hollywood starlets!
