COOKING CLASSES Farm to Table Cooking
with Tucson Community Supported Agriculture
Somali Cuisine Cooking Class October 29, 11 am – 2 pm
Are you interested in eating a more locally
sourced diet? In this class participants will learn
how to avoid frustration, approach cooking with
creativity and gain knowledge of the tools they need to tackle
unfamiliar fruits and vegetables. Learn to develop a more
intuitive sense of how to use fresh fruits and vegetables. The
recipes will be kosher and vegetarian. Sara Jones is a long
time employee of Tucson CSA and a frequent contributor and
recipe writer for Edible Baja Arizona. Includes a delicious lunch.

Somali Refugee Chef Samiro will introduce you to Somali
cuisine as she shares her expertise in creating delectable
Somali dishes and shares her story about moving from
Somalia to Tucson. Co-hosted with the International Rescue
Committee in Tucson. The meal will be kosher and vegetarian.

Syrian Cooking Class
Sundays, September 17 – October 8, Noon – 3 pm
In this four-week class, Chef Shahd will teach you to make
Syrian delicacies as well as a sampling of her signature recipes.
Chef Shahd’s single-session cooking classes at The J have been
featured on Tucson’s own Fox 11 News and AZPM’s Arizona
Spotlight. Co-hosted with the International Rescue Committee
in Tucson. The recipes will be kosher and vegetarian.

Chef Jaime Lawhorn, Executive Pastry Chef at aka Deli and
Bakeshop, will lead a baking workshop on bagel preparation
and teach you how to make aka Deli and Bakeshop’s signature
schmears. Jennifer Selco, Director of Jewish Life and Learning
at The J, will give a short presentation on the history of bagel
making in Jewish culture.
