Welcome The New Year: A Visual
NEW! Arts Workshop for Rosh Hashanah
Sunday, September 17, Noon – 2 pm
In this workshop, in preparation for Rosh Hashanah you
will be guided through a mixed-media process that invites our
reflection on the seven spiritual building blocks (Sefirot) with
which G-d created the world. You will create a project that will
invite us to reflect on Kindness, Severity, Harmony,
Perseverance, Splendor, Foundation and Loyalty. This is a
family friendly event. All are welcome! Carolyn King has been a
teaching-artist for over 30 years. She has focused her teaching
work on Arts as Healing with community members age 3-93.

Experience creative movement, basic ballet and life skills in a
fun afternoon with Ballet Tucson’s Professional Dancers and
Staff. Great for the whole family - Ballet Tucson Artists will
lead and inspire young and old alike to create their own “Art
That Moves” in the Tucson J’s Sculpture Garden.

Art Talk: Design Elements & the Art of
Appreciation
Thursday, October 19, 5 – 6 pm
Artist and Gallerist Yun Gee Park will lead a seminar on the
appreciation of art. Tucson’s Yun Gee Park Gallery presents works
by leading artists from across the United States, Israel, Germany,
France, and South Korea, as well as work by Tucson artists. A
graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Park will showcase
items from the Yun Gee Park Gallery as tools for conversation.

dance makers at the Tucson J with
engaging new works from our professional company! Innovative,
entertaining and moving dance will be presented “up close
and personal” by company artists. Along with insights provided
from each choreographer, a question and answer session will be
offered to delve more deeply into the creative process of classical
and contemporary ballet.

Southern Arizona
NEW! The Jewish-Jazz Connection and the Great
American Songbook: A Musical Review
Wednesday, October 18, 6:30 pm
A musical review of the Jewish-Jazz Connection and the Great
American Songbook from the swinging jazz that brought
America to its feet in dance halls across the U.S. in the 30s
and 40s, to the Brazilian bossa nova craze that swept the
nation in the 50s and 60s. Robin Bessier’s Jazz Trio explores
this rich tapestry in a concert that will both entertain and
educate.

Members of the Tucson community will share dramatic and
poignant accounts of their persecution at the hands of the Nazis,
and of perseverance and survival. Learn how the book evolved, and
how local schools are using the book in their curriculum. Copies of
the book will be available for purchase, with proceeds to benefit
the Holocaust Program at Jewish Family & Children’s Services.
