Crown and Manor Club
The Crown and Manor Club in Hoxton
prides itself on a history of providing a
safe haven for boys and young men. It
is open to members between the ages of
7 and 25 and comprises a gymnasium,
games room, access to technology
and spaces suitable for education and
community purposes. It has had a
long association with Win Coll and
young OWs are encouraged to become
involved, in particular helping with
homework. Also, the Club is looking
for anyone who is in a position to offer
work experience or internships. Please

Founder’s Obit
For the first time in many years, the
Quiristers, Winchester Cathedral
Choristers and New College Choristers
came together on Thursday 27 th
September for a Founder’s Obit Festal
Evensong. Miles Young, Warden of New
College, gave the homily, which can be
viewed on the News page of the Win
Coll Soc website wincollsoc.org. This was
followed by a Founder’s Dinner for Junior
Part boys in College Hall, a new event.
Old Wykehamist Blues – help needed!
We are trying to create lists of all
Wykehamists awarded blues or half-blues
at Oxford and Cambridge. The hope is
to create honours boards for the new PE
centre. So far, draft lists have been drawn
up by trawling through the published
Winchester College Registers and back
copies of The Wykehamist/Trusty Servant.
For the 1827-1930, these lists can be
checked against details published in a
book called Oxford versus Cambridge:
a record of inter-university contests, but
we will struggle to ensure that we have
correct information from 1930. We
would therefore be very grateful if OWs
could contact the College Archivist,
Suzanne Foster via [email protected] with
details of their blues/half-blues or any
others that they know of.

Visiting Win Coll - security
arrangements
OWs and Don Soc members are most
welcome, but we have been asked by the
Security Committee to remind those who
wish to visit the school (other than for
an event, when the instructions issued
may be different, or when visiting as a
spectator at matches) that they must
contact the Porters’ Lodge to check
whether the school is open for visitors.
This should be done at least 24 hours in
advance of the planned visit, or by Friday
midday for weekends: 01962 621227
or [email protected]. They should
arrive at the Porters’ Lodge and not enter
by any other gate and will be asked to
produce identification and sign the OW
or Don Soc visitors books; they will be
issued with a visitor’s badge and lanyard,
to be worn conspicuously during their
visit, please, and returned as they leave
through the same gate. They will also
be given a map showing the areas of the
school that may be visited. Safeguarding
and Child Protection regulations become
ever tighter and OWs and ex-staff are no
longer allowed to come and go at will.
Recent Win Coll Soc Events
Winchester Match: on Saturday 16th
June, on a slightly chilly day but bright
enough, a smaller than usual cohort of
OWs and staff gathered for lunch in
the magnificent Win Coll Soc marquee
beside Hunter Tent. There they were
hosted by Patrick Walker, Development
Associate, with the Warden and
Headmaster also speaking. The weaker-
than-usual OW 1st and 2nd XIs were
soundly thrashed by Lords and 2nd XI,
with Hopperite Jonathan Figy scoring
over 140. Altogether a most enjoyable
day
