A Wintery Snow Leopard Arrival
This winter , we welcomed 2-year-old female snow leopard NeeCee to the Louisville Zoo . NeeCee joins us from the Miller Park Zoo . She will rotate exhibit time with the Zoo ’ s 6-year-old male snow leopard Kimti . Snow leopards stand about two feet at the shoulder and weigh 60 to 120 pounds . The International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species lists snow leopards as vulnerable . See page 25 to learn more about the upcoming construction for a new snow leopard exhibit !
A Tiger Trip
While the areas near Tiger Tundra are under construction through spring , our Amur tigers Marietta and Vikentii will be on exhibit in the Islands in a rotation pattern along with the orangutans , siamangs , tapirs , babirusa and Sumatran tigers . So far , the Amur tigers seem to find the new smells and signs of the Island stimulating — especially the attractive Sumatran tigers nearby ! Amur tiger Vikentii , has become much more vocal in his new environment with his new neighbors . more New animals ...
As you walk the Zoo in late spring , you may see a few new animal ambassadors . In the Africa zone , look for a new male southern white rhinoceros to join female Sindi in the rhino exhibit . Stop to feed the giraffes and visit the new female giraffe in Baridi and Malaika ’ s herd ! Next door , you may see a new 3-year-old male lion exploring his environment . At Glacier Run , two new grey seals will be sure to amaze and delight you as they splash and swim in our pinniped pool . Be sure to slip into the shady HerpAquarium to meet our new male Komodo dragon before you go . Additional information will be coming soon about our new animal friends including names and more as they make their way to Louisville .
