METAZOO Camp T-Shirt Contest Winners By Fred Hougland, Education Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our third Safari Day Camp T-shirt Design Contest! The Education Staff was quite impressed by the creativity and skills shown in all the entries. The first place winning design will be featured on our Safari Day Camp t-shirts this summer. The winners were Mira and Kaylee Matthews, both 10 years old (twins). Mira did the drawing and Kaylee did the lettering. “We’re Mira and Kaylee. We’re twin sisters who love animals, draw- ing and THE ZOO!” Kaylee wrote: "I love the animals in the Zoo and all the fun activities. One day over the summer, my mom and I brought our sketch books and drew the animals at the Zoo. I was excited that my artwork was going on a Zoo t-shirt! I liked the topic for this contest because you’re lucky if you get to see an endangered animal. It was fun drawing animals as letters because I got to look up lots of adorable animals in order to draw them. One day in the future if we don’t do anything about it, other people can’t see and share that same moment.” Mira wrote: " I chose to try this contest because I love the Zoo and all the amazing animals in it. Draw- ing animals is something I really like to do. I think a t-shirt contest is a great way to get kids to think about these animals and be creative. The first few animals that I thought of were polar bears, pandas and black rhinos. It makes me sad to think one day, kids might not be able to see these wonderful animals and that the animals might not exist. I’m happy the Zoo is trying to help fix this problem.” (Left to right) Mira & Kaylee Matthews FALL CAMPS — October 8 & 9 Due to overwhelming response, our Summer Safari Day Camp program is sold out!
