This month we are so pleased to feature a short Bio and photography from Doug Hensel. Here is his story and some enticing photography from his site called 5280 Trout Hunters. We are blessed to know you and to have had your support from the beginning Doug!
My journey begins in a small town in western Iraq called Amarah. Spending a year in that country can change anyone. After my tour, I found myself struggling to adjust to life state side. In order to get back to some kind of normalcy, I realized I needed to find some kind of hobby before I was able to come home for good. When I was finally able to end my active duty, I packed my life up and headed back to Colorado. When I finally arrived, I was met with a warm welcome from family and friends. I sought out something to keep my mind from going crazy, and I ran into a friend’s husband, who suggested I try fly fishing.
Through my travels and through Facebook, I have met different people from all walks of life that truly understood this insane addiction. I’ve been fortunate enough to rub elbows with some influential people - Phil Tereyla (author and photographer for several magazines) being one. He has opened my eyes to what this addiction is all about: capturing the moment. I can’t thank Phil and Andrew enough for their part in making this hobby a part of my life. It has taken me to some of the most majestic places I could have ever imagined, and for the first time in ages, I am at peace.
