It’s amazing the lengths we go to catch a fish. It seems strange that at times I have risked injury…and possibly my life…in the pursuit of a catch. Most fisherman will understand this but let's break down the logic. Is a simple spotted, swimming creature that I’m going to return to the water, worth all this effort and potential danger? Well…put simply…yes.

This particular gorge held a trout in its most inconvenient corner. The fish was kind enough to take my dry fly from the surface, yet what I thought was the perfect strike, left me disappointed. I made my way back over the gorge, sulking from my loss of a potential trophy. Suddenly, what seemed to be a ledge in the rock gave way, and I fell four metres, back into the depths of this icy mountain stream. Thankfully we always have friends to remind us of the funny side of our misfortune.
