The highlight of the New Zealand fishing calendar is when the cicadas come out in the heat of summer. During this period, a normally shy trout, throws all caution to the wind. Even a poorly placed cast can have fish turning downstream in the hopeful search of a clumsy cicada. A large stimulator dry fly or cicada imitation is all that's required for a good day's fishing. It's like the trout sink into a mesmerised state and any large object proves too hard to resist. With potential of big trout on dry fly, these are the days we hope for.
