All hail the Castle Trail
More than 300 castles , estates and ruins still stand in Aberdeenshire , Scotland , and 19 of them are awaiting discovery on the country ’ s Castle Trail .
“ With more castles per acre in Aberdeenshire than anywhere else in the U . K ., it ’ s no wonder the region is referred to as Scotland ’ s Castle Country ,” says Nicole Graham , assistant marketing manager with VisitScotland . “ From Drum Castle , a fine Jacobean mansion house , to the magnificent fortress of Fyvie Castle , where legends and folklore are woven into its 800-year-old history , Aberdeenshire is a fantastic region to explore to help gain a better understanding of Scotland ’ s rich historical past .”
Students will learn about the influential families who ’ ve lived in the country ’ s castles for generations , the treasures they hold and each home ’ s impressive architecture . They ’ ll
Dunnottar Castle see places like Dunnottar Castle , Duff House , Braemar Castle and Spynie Palace .
2018 in Scotland is the Year of Young People , which highlights the talents and contributions of Scotland ’ s youth with lots of events and programming . On the calendar are the Scottish Youth Poetry Slam ; the Glasgow Youth Film Festival ; the Wigtown Book Festival ; Knight at the Castle , which is an after-hours experience at Edinburgh Castle designed for young adults ; and the Write Here Write Now Festival , a new writers event for ages eight to 26 in Renfrewshire .

What ’ s up at the Chicago Architecture Center ?
The Chicago Architecture Foundation is set to open the Chicago Architecture Center this summer . The 20,000-squarefoot edifice will help visitors discover Chicago ’ s architectural legacy and its role in shaping cities everywhere through docent-led tours and innovative exhibition spaces .
CHICAGO : City of Architecture Gallery , the center ’ s signature gallery , will connect visitors to Chicago ’ s place in architectural history through exhibits that explore the city ’ s neighborhoods and their unique architectural styles , as well as new Chicago projects that push the boundaries of design .
The Tall : Skyscrapers and Innovation exhibit will feature detailed , supersized scale models of famous skyscrapers from Chicago and across the globe , including a 40-foot-tall model of the world ’ s tallest building . Students will learn how architects push boundaries and discover what it takes to build the world ’ s “ megatall ” structures .
The Chicago City Model Experience will be a cinematic , interactive encounter that tells the story of the city considered the birthplace of the skyscraper , from its founding and the Great Chicago Fire to the construction of today ’ s super tall buildings .
The Hands-On Design Studio will offer workshops and personalized design experiences for all ages that can be geared toward teenagers looking to pursue a career in architecture . The Future Cities Gallery will include a variety of rotating exhibits exploring the construction of resilient megacities of the future that will exist in balance with nature .
The Chicago Architecture Foundation offers architectural boat tours on the Chicago River , programs , exhibitions , field trips and online tools as part of a dynamic learning journey for all ages .
