Curriculum | Science SCIENCE … ON-SITE AND ON THE ROAD KENTUCKY SCIENCE CENTER With three floors of interactive exhibit experiences; co-curricular movie offerings on a four-story-tall digital screen; and on-site classes, labs, and demonstrations with full-time educators, the Kentucky Science Center is the regional hub for hands-on science fun. “Teachers will find exciting and relatable STEM education opportunities for every age and grade,” said Gil Reyes, senior manager of external affairs. “That can be through ‘Science in Play’ and its open-ended learning for children under 7, helping elementary and middle school students solve engineering puzzles related to our ‘Ohio River Bridges Project,’ or asking questions of a renowned heart-surgeon while streaming a live open-heart surgery.” Groups can follow up on a visit to the flagship facility with programming delivered to their school or another site. Schools can book visits from traveling programs—such as “Ion Jones and the Lost Castle of Chemistry,” the adventurous journey through the periodic table—or teachers can collaborate with Science Center staff to tailor offerings that fit specific lessons. Yellowstone Bear World is a drivethrough wildlife park that features freeroaming North American mammals such as elk, deer, moose, bison and mountain goats, along with black bears, grizzly bears and wolves. Visitors drive their personal vehicle or ride a bus through the open habitats, and the animals will walk near or even beside the vehicles, providing up-close (but safe) views of these magnificent animals. Step-on guides are available for motorcoach groups. “With the tight schedules in group tour itineraries to Yellowstone National Park, viewing wildlife there is not as common as some may think,” said Courtney Ferguson, vice president of Yellowstone Bear World. “That’s why we offer a viewing of these animals at our drive-through park.” The attraction is located near Rexburg, Idaho, in the vicinity of both Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. Tours are offered three times daily during spring and fall, and every hour during the summer.
