IT TAKES A VILLAGE
Heritage Park Historical Village, with more
than 200 exhibits and attractions spread
over 127 acres of parkland, tells the tale
of Western Canadian settlement in a way
that’s as fun as it is historical. The park,
located 20 minutes from downtown Calgary,
Alberta, offers interactive displays, costumed
interpreters, historical buildings and hundreds
of working antiques. The attraction opened in
1964 and has a variety of tours, exhibitions
and experiences for student groups, including
the following:
2 Olympiads, 2 Super Bowls, 1 World Series and more!
“History Relived—The Immigrants’ Story”
On this new tour, students can walk in the
footsteps of those who came to Western
Canada more than a hundred years ago, visit
the places where they lived and worked, and
experience true stories of people from around
the world who made a new home in the west.
“From Field to Fork: A Culinary Journey”
Guests experience a feast for the senses with
a visit to the First Nations encampment and
historical gardens and farm. Along with learning
how First Nations people and early settlers
lived off the land, visitors will sample a taste of
what’s still being grown on the property.
River Forth Dining Car
Groups enjoy the opulence of the Roaring
’20s in the refurbished solarium dining car
that’s pulled by the iconic Heritage Park
Steam Locomotive.
“The Road to Banff”
Students learn the trials of being a tourist
back in the day when it was illegal to travel by
car to Canada’s first National Park.
