NATIONAL MUSIC CENTRE
CALGARY
National Music Centre at Studio Bell
Valcartier Vacation Village
This summer, Calgary’s National Music Centre will open at Studio Bell
in the city’s bustling East Village district. Students will see five floors
of exhibitions that help tell the story of music in Canada across the
decades.
The expanded gallery space will contain more than 20 exhibition
stages that immerse groups in the sounds and sights of the country’s
music scene. Display areas will present a wider cross-section
of artifacts, photographs, recordings and memorabilia from top
performers, including those who have been enshrined in the Canadian
Hall of Fame and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
In addition to seeing those items, groups will be able to check out
the center’s collection of more than 2,000 rare instruments, see live
daily performances and take part in education programming. A series
of interactive installations will allow school groups to play a variety of
instruments and head into the sound booth to add their vocal stylings
to popular songs.
Located just outside Québec City, Valcartier Vacation Village is a
popular recreation area that caters to families and school groups.
When it opened in 1963, the attraction quickly gained a reputation
as one of North America’s largest winter playgrounds, and it
has consistently expanded its offerings to become a year-round
destination.
The winter season draws visitors who can enjoy steep inner tube
slopes, a snow rafting area, an ice skating path and more, while waterbased activities are the focus of its summer offerings. An outdoor
water park features 35 slides, and at Rafting Valcartier, students can
enjoy a number of excursions on the Jacques-Cartier River ranging
from whitewater trips and family river tours to raft and canoe rentals.
This December, a new $65 million recreational complex will debut
that includes an indoor waterpark and a four-star hotel with 153 suites.
