Since it debuted at the U.S. Space and
Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, 34
years ago, Space Camp has graduated over
600,000 trainees, some of which went on to
become actual astronauts and fly missions. In
addition to taking part in that popular camp,
students can enjoy two newer programs:
Aviation Challenge and Robotics Camp.
Aviation Challenge is a fast-paced offering
that uses simulated combat scenarios a jet
pilot would face. There are three levels, based
on ages of students, with the Mach III option
catering to high schoolers. During Mach
III, students are challenged in the fields of
aerodynamics, aeronautics and jet propulsion.
They also learn tactics of shelter building and
food procurement, and practice water-survival
skills in a man-made lake.
Robotics Camp is an exciting, five-night
experience that helps participants learn
teamwork and leadership skills as they
engineer and design robots to be used
on land, in the air and underwater. By
incorporating real-world applications of
science, technology, engineering and math
concepts, these activities equip students with
cutting-edge knowledge.
