Billy Bird Bird Bird was a four-sport star at Corbin High School and a winner of 12 varsity letters. He was named to All-State teams in both basketball and track while garnering All-State football honors twice in football. He was also a High School All-American during his senior season in football. Bird once scored 10 touchdowns and six extra points for 66 points in a football game against Williamsburg, at the time the sixth highest mark in prep history. He fi nished his high school varsity career with 336 points. He was also inducted into the Dawahares/KHSAA High School Sports Hall of Fame Inductee in 1993. Bird also played football at the college level for the University of Kentucky in the early 1960s. Calvin Bird Bird Bird was an outstanding athlete at Corbin High School and earned 10 varsity letters. He was named to every all-tournament team he played in. He was an outstanding athlete in track where he won the 100 and 200-yard dash during his junior and senior years in high school. He was also a star in football. Bird led Corbin to a mythical state champion- ship in 1955, and followed in 1956 by setting a then-school record of 264 points for the season. He was also an All-State and All-American selection in football during the 1955 and 1956 seasons. He was inducted into the Dawahares/KHSAA High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1993. Bird also played football at the college level for the University of Kentucky where he was a halfback and kick returner from 1958-1960. He set fi ve school records and was the MVP in the All-American All-Star Game and led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in pass receiving during his sophomore season. During the 1958 and 59 seasons, Bird scored all of the Wildcats’ points in their wins over Tennessee. His jersey was retired in 1997. He is also a member of the UK Athletics Hall of Fame.
