Canady Jeffrey Ray Canady II Photo by: Darrin Spencer Canady is one of the best athletes to come out of Knox Central High School. He holds 16 school records for the football program — career rushing touchdowns (66); career receiving touchdowns (24); career total touchdowns (94); career receiving yards (2,531); career rushing yards (4,344); career total yards (7,950); career total points (570); career interceptions (11); career receptions (126); single season rushing touchdowns (28); single season receiving touchdowns (8); single game rushing touchdowns (5); points in a season (194); single season receiving yards (871); single season rushing yards (2,012) and single game rushing yards (216). He garnered First Team All-State honors at three diff erent positions (running back, Punter and Linebacker) his seniors year. Other honors Canady earned during high school were: selected to the All-Commonwealth team; Academic All-State for four years; First Team All-State for two years; Second team All-State for two years; District Player of the year; SEKC Player of the Year; All Mountain Team; WYMT Class 4A Player of the Year; Best of the Bluegrass All Star team; KY Border Bowl All Star Team; NUC Top Prospect; KY Elite 12 and ranked as a top fi ve player in the state in 2012. He continued his football player career at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) while continuing to excel on the football fi eld after receiving off ers from six Division I schools. Listed are the honors he received as a Colonel: 2016 CoSIDA Academic All District; 2017 EKU Male Scholar Athlete of the Year fi nalist; Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Player of the Week (several times); FCS National Player of the Week; Named Second Team All American; All-State AFCA Good Works Team nominee; semifi nalist for William V. Campbell Trophy; College Sports Journal Top 10 Breakout Players and back to back seasons leading tackler at EKU (second in the OVC and seventh in the nation). Mark Canady Canady Canady was one of the most successful athletes in Knox Central High School history and went on to play football at Eastern Kentucky University. During his senior year as a Panther, he was All-Conference, All-Regional, and All-State in three diff erent sports — football, basketball and track. He was also named to the All-State Academic Team in track. During his freshman year at Knox Central, Canady was a member of the Kentucky Junior Olympics track team that competed in the Nationals in Memphis, Tenn. He continued his success during his sophomore season by being ranked No. 2 in the state in both the high hurdles and low hurdles. As a junior, Canady ran for more than 1,000 yards rushing and was also the team’s leading receiver. He was ranked as one of the best bas- ketball players in the 13th Region and won many track awards, setting records in high hurdles and low hurdles at numerous meets while earning All-State honors. He received scholarship off ers from several universities in all three sports. Some of the schools that off ered scholarships or showed interest in football, basketball and track were: Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, Duke, East Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Louisville, Southern Mississippi, Ole Miss, Union College, Cumberland College (now University of the Cumberlands), Georgetown College, Harvard, Navy and Eastern Kentucky University. 12 | 50 GREATEST SPORTS FIGURES
