CENTER FOR HEALTH AND LEARNING The Union College Center for Health and Learning is open to the public. The center, home of the former Stivers Aquatic Center, includes an Olympic-sized pool, a therapy pool, free weights and cardio machine room, party/event room and a learning center/education lab complete with a com- puter lab, library and study hall. Page 44 — The Times-Tribune • Community Guide 2019 In 1775 the first trails an roads were established and the Wilderness Road, War- riors Path and the Daniel Boone Trail known as the Boone Trace all cross in Knox County. Guests and residents alike can still enjoy several nature trails around the area. Barbourville, in 1861, was the site of the first battle wit casualties in the Civil War. Now that battle is reenacted each September. And in 1879 Union College was the first college in th mountains of Barbourville and today has about 1,110 students enrolled in the school. Today Barbourville is celebrating many offerings from events, festivals and businesses for its residents and locals alike.
