So too was the need to accommodate family
heirlooms and keepsakes from the owners’
many trips abroad.
“While the house has a modern aesthetic, the
clients wanted to bring with them hints of their
previous bungalow that they dearly loved. To
this end, the kitchen and bathrooms have rustic
touches among the contemporary elements. For
example, the ergonomic kitchen has a planked
veneer that introduces a country accent.”
A focal point of the living area is a retro-style
wall-to-wall shelving unit – an example of the
personal feel that runs through every room. An
oak-and-cedar open stair optimises the sense of
space. This leads to the master bedroom, which
maximises the expansive views over Manukau
Harbour. The master bed sits against a recycled
timber headboard.
