Apartments all aglow
To enhance the cosy intimacy of the Balfour apartments, the developer
specified Escea DL Series fireplaces with versatile flue technology
There’s no disputing the cosy ambience
created by a fireplace, but flue restrictions
in apartment buildings can make it all but
impossible to install such a feature.
The Balfour apartments design team
found a way around the problem, however. With considerable input from the
Escea Architectural Advisory Team
during the apartment design process,
and familiarisation with the Escea versatile flue technology, it was possible to
install Escea DL Series fireplaces in every
apartment in the building.

Escea says its Powered Direct Vent
flue uses a fan to provide higher efficiencies. In addition, this flue system allows
for either horizontal extraction through a
wall, or vertical flue runs with terminations through a roof. These flue runs can
be up to 12m.
Owners have the added benefit of
being able to control the fireplace remotely
by smartphone or website, so they can
return to a warm home at the end of the
day. The fireplace controls can also be
connected to a home automation system.

Beautiful flickering flames are a feature
of the DL Series, which offers a maximum
output of just over 10kW, and up to 5 Star
Energy Star efficiency ratings.
Escea says the value a fireplace adds to
a building is far greater than its cost.
