Key Recommendations
Issue 4: Race relations
Superficial understanding of racial and religious harmony, casual racism and
prevalence of negative Indian stereotypes were discussed. There was a mutual
consensus amongst youth to promote deeper understanding on various racial and
religious practices. Education on racial awareness, leveraging on social media
platforms and establishing an independent feedback unit were proposed. These
initiatives aim to raise awareness and identify unmet social needs shared by the
Indian community.
Issue 5: Bullying
The percentage of reported cases of bullying remains high despite numerous
efforts taken to educate teachers, parents and students. There is a lack of
research on the relationship between bullying and ethnicity in Singapore. To
address this, in-depth research on bullying is encouraged. By working with
Singapore Children’s Society, grants may be offered to academics and
researchers to research on bullying. To empower students, experiential and
explorative learning methods are to be incorporated in schools to stand up
against bullying.
