ARTS & LANGUAGE Issue 2: Dance & music involvement and participation Dance and music were perceived as the second most popular aspects of Tamil Art amongst the youth right after drama (figure 1). However, the general consensus was that there were not enough opportunities for potential artists to perform or hone their talents. Moreover, participants were of the impression that to be able to perform publicly, one has to be able to commit and dedicate enough time to this craft. This was cited as an issue because it excludes youth who are passionate and talented but have day jobs. Another obstacle for individuals, who want to pursue dance and music, is the lack of employment opportunities. Maathi Yosi | 2019 13
