Issue 1:Theatre & film production interest
Even though the most anticipated
Arts activity amongst the youth was
drama (figure 2), a large percentage
of them were actually unaware of the
happenings in the Tamil theatre
scene (figure 3). To understand why
this might be the case, participants
were asked to share their current
knowledge and views about Tamil
theatre.
Most of the participants in the
discussion group were critical of the
quality of both student and
professional
Tamil
theatre
productions. In most cases, their lack
of involvement in Tamil theatre and
film was not due to a lack of interest
in it, but the lack of resources to
facilitate and cultivate a vibrant
and sustainable theatre and film
production scene.

In schools, the lack of time, the lack
of exposure to good quality theatre
and a lack of funding were reasons
cited that compromised the quality of
student productions.
