definitive care for all injured patients.  A Level III Trauma Center has 
demonstrated an ability to provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, 
surgery, intensive care and stabilization of injured patients and emergency 
operations. 
Findings
About six miles west of the USAF Medical Center is the NorthBay Medical 
Center, a verified Level II Trauma Center.  The NorthBay Medical Center is 
the closest alternative to the USAF Medical Center.  Kaiser Permanente 
Vacaville Medical Center, another Level II Trauma Center, about ten miles 
north of the USAF Medical Center, is also an alternative.  The closest Level I 
Trauma Center is the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. 
 The USAF Medical Center provides emergency services to civilians 
during emergency situations.  Due to the time sensitivity of an 
emergency event, a background check may not be performed before 
allowing entrance to the Base. 
 Patients who are entitled to treatment may be denied entry to the 
Base if they do not pass a background check.
