ELECTRIC TRIDENT
T
riumph Motorcycles has revived the iconic Tri-
dent name by announcing it has begun work on
an all electric motorcycle.
The British company created a buzz earlier this
year when they sent a survey to customers asking
about such things as electric bikes. Since then
Triumph has confirmed that work has begun and will see
a lightweight electric powertrain developed and within
two years.
Triumph will work on the project with a company
accepted as a world leader in such technologies; Williams
Advanced Engineering ... the same Williams as in the
Formula 1 team.
"Project Triumph TE-1 is one part of our electric mo-
torcycle strategy, focused on delivering what riders want
and expect from their Triumph,"says Triumph CEO, Nick
Bloor. "Which is the perfect balance of handling, perfor-
mance and usability.”
650 HIMALAYAN
Royal Enfield is said to be releasing a 650cc version of
the Himalayan sometime next year.
Unlike the current 410 version the 650 will be exten-
sively tested before launch to ensure none of the issues
faced by the current model.
Mated to a 6-speed gear box the Himalayan's power-
plant will be the same as what is found in the latest twin
cylindered Interceptor and Continental GT. It's also said
to have a newer frame too.
NO FINKE FOR PRICE
Heartbreak has struck reigning Dakar champion, Aus-
tralian Toby Price as he failed to finish Australia's fastest
off-road race, Finke.
Price was eight minutes in the lead of the car division
heading into day two when his Red Bull Trophy Truck lost
drive to the wheels and he was forced to retire. He admit-
ed it had been fun and will be back next year to add a car
title to his numerous two wheel trophies.
TINY HONDA TO GO AHEAD
Debuting a concept at EICMA 2018 Honda gave a hint
that an ultra small adventure bike was perhaps just
around the corner. Filing patents with the European Pat-
ent Office it seems that the Honda CB125X will go ahead.
Based on the CB125R paltform the bike could be a
great entry level machine to the world of dual sport and
although it won't have the greatest performance perhaps
small and light is something that true adventure riders
have been screaming for.
Could this concept lead to more from Honda?
KTM SOLD
The Australian distribution rights to KTM, Husqvarna
and WP Suspension has been sold by Automotive Hold-
ings Group (AHG) to KTM.
AHG held 100% of the Australian rights since 1994 and
74% of New Zealand since 2006, the sale of which should
have little impact on the retail market as KTM now falls
inline with most other manufacturers within the Austral-
ia / New Zealand market.
