What Silly Nonsense!
Her Majesty Doesn't Ride One
Jacqui Furneaux is quick to point out, her bike is an
Enfield NOT a Royal Enfield; it’s all a bit political, to do
with marketing rights and a silly tradition that goes back
centuries. Her motorcycle is just an Enfield.
“My beautiful motorbike is an Enfield. That’s what it
says on the tank,” Jacqui lovingly grins. “Mine was made
when the manufacturer did not own the rights to the
ROYAL – what silly nonsense!”
Jacqui laughs that ‘Her Majesty’, Queen Elizabeth II
doesn’t ride an Enfield or a Royal Enfield for that matter.
It’s perhaps a bike not befitting of royalty, a fact not lost
on Jacqui who laughs as she describes the 500cc Bullet.
Looking like it was made pre-1960; battered, bruised
and dishevelled, Jacqui’s Enfield Bullet is surprisingly
only 19 years old, bought brand new in 2000, direct from
a dealer in Chennai, India.
“I fell in love with a Dutchman in India,” Jacqui re-
