Covington isn’t new to filming. Our film
roots run deep. So deep, we trade-
marked the name “Hollywood of the
South.” It started in 1954 with A Man
Called Peter, starring Richard Todd and
Jean Peters. Productions became
sparse but this changed, due to the
popular television show, In the Heat of
the Night. Covington became Sparta,
Mississippi. Soon, more movies were
coming and continued. Movies can be
a short fling. Television series come to
town, stay, spend money and create
jobs year after year. The popular series,
The Vampire Diaries just finished up 8
seasons but Covington will forever be

Mystic Falls. Fans from all over make
their way here to see the real “backlot”
and visit all the actual locations. They
can book a three-hour guided tour with
Mystic Falls Tours or use our self-guided
map. In the Heat of the Night fans can
take a self- guided tour. We have a very
detailed brochure with key locations
within the downtown area. In the Heat
of the Night fans still come to visit all the
time. You can call Covington the city
with many names: Hazzard County,
Sparta, or Mystic Falls. But at the end of
the day we are the beautiful town of
Covington, Georgia, a great place to
visit. We have something for everyone.
