The Stax Museum is actually the
original site of Stax Records,
which went bankrupt and closed
up in the mid-1970s.
The area, widely known for its soul music,
was dubbed Soulsville USA, and that was
the nickname Stax Records gave their
studio. This, in large part, was to counter-
act Motown Records, who called them-
selves Hitsville USA. These museums are
only a taste of what the area has to offer
when it comes to history, so be sure to
take a drive down a few streets and stop
in at a diner for a bite, chat with the locals,
and keep an open ear for any secret
spots worth checking out. It’s all about
the legends!
