//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// WOLLERSHEIM WINERY Head to Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin for a glass of vino from an award-win- ning winery, 45 years in the making. 1972 marked the year that Robert and JoAnn Wollersheim purchased the farm land to restore the winery to its full capacity. Today, the winery now has a little sister, the Cedar Creek Winery, which was also pur- chased by the family, in 1990. You can take a tour of the winery with up to 20 people at a time, but be sure to call ahead to make a reserva- tion. If you do not call ahead, and are in a smaller group, you can purchase “day of” tickets at the door. While on the tour, you can expect introductory historical videos, a complete walk outside around the vineyards, and an inside look into the underground limestone aging cellars, where you’ll finish the tour and be invited to come taste the wines in current production. You might want to try the Prairie Blush, a delicious semi-dry blush wine with pink grapefruit and red cur- rant undertones. The Prairie Blush has consistently won awards and has earned Wollersheim the name of being a top rose producer in Amer- ica. The tasting is complimentary with the tour (current wines only), but addi- tional flights may be purchased for the added experience. If you’re not much of a wine drinker, and simply along for the ride, don’t worry! Wollersheim has something for everyone, including a distillery on the grounds, as well. Explore the legend of the Wollersheim brandy making, and take a tour of the distinctive dis- tillery, complete with tastings all its own. There is nothing more satisfying when touring a winery, brewery, or distillery, than leaving and knowing that you’ve sampled a quality prod- uct with quality people. These estab- lishments pride themselves on classic, hand-crafted batches that bring as much history to the table as they do alcohol content. Take the time to sip slowly, and sink into the aromas and flavors that fill your senses, and you’ll go home with a good memory and a great souvenir worth sharing!
