It doesn’t get any better than walking through the halls and getting to learn about and honor the “heroes of the game.” According to Pro Football Hall of Fame, Canton was chosen as the site for the hall because “The American Professional Football Association, later renamed the Na- tional Football League, was founded in Canton on Sept. 17 th , 1920.” For this reason, along with the fact that early 1960s Canton citizens petitioned and organized that the hall be placed in their city, ulti- mately led to the construction of the site. Summer hours are extended until 8pm and the price of admission is $25 per adult (ages 13-64). General admission will get you the basics, but if you call yourself the ultimate football fan, you’ll want to take the VIP Insider’s Tour. The price is steep at $2,000, but the cost covers up to 20 people, so get a large group and pay $100 each, and you’ll be good to go. On the tour, you will get to explore never-before-seen artifacts and images, and the stories “will make the hall come alive,” according to recent visitors. You will actually be touring the Ralph Wilson, Jr. Pro Football Research & Preser- vation Center, which is the “state-of-the-art” facility that houses all of the additional artifacts. The tour is available 7 days a week upon reservation, and will last for about an hour. 102 | Summer 2017 | Travel Midwest the pro football hall of fame was founded in 1963.
