What makes one business more successful than another? Why is it that some businesses that have been well planned and well organized fail, despite having seemingly good products or services, whilst others seem to thrive? The one difference between all businesses is the leadership that they have, not just in the executive boardrooms, but throughout the company.

When putting the term 'leadership' into a Google search, over 450 million results can be found. This serves to highlight the importance placed on this concept. As businesses seek to gain competitive advantage, every possible avenue is being explored.

In our second issue of Training Magazine Middle East, we discuss the various theories of leadership with our feature on page 18 focusing on Global Leadership Development, an often overlooked leadership skill in the Middle East.

I commend Paula Jane Coxfor boldly expressing her viewpoint on leadership in the Middle East with ‘Stop Training Your Leaders!’ on page 16, whilst on page 22, Gerwyn Harkett reminds us that successful leadership cannot be achieved without the simultaneous training of management and team skills.

Successful leadership encompasses many approaches. The articles seek to broaden your horizons on the approaches available, so you can make a well-informed conclusion about which approach you and your organization should adopt.

This month I am excited to announce the inclusion of an actionable resource on page 26. I recommend implementing the Employee Development Plan from Maha Khatib to review the current training and personnel objectives within your organization.
