Talent Management

Step Three - Launching Competency-Based Programs

Contemporary learning requires that we go through a series of learning phases to become an expert in any given area of work e.g. a doctor should pass MBBS to practice medicine. Whereas, competency based learning requires employees to work on one competency at a time, making it a tiny component of a bigger objective.

Once achieved then the employee is evaluated on that particular competency, and only when they have mastered, they would move to the next. A xompetency-based program plans to close the gap between existing competencies and the competencies required by individuals to shoulder higher responsibilities. These programs are there to describe the people success in particular types of work and then updating job descriptions to match them with the work that is required by them.

Step Four – Brining in Learning based on EQ ‘Emotional Intelligence’

Essentially, everyone likes to work in a company where there are great leaders. Occasionally, we see a few leaders who are brilliant.

When we look at the truly extraordinary people who inspire and make a difference we see that they do this by connecting with people at a personal and emotional level.

One of the functions that we must include in our talent management programs is that all leaders should be effective at communication i.e. promoter of open conversation, active listening and they should allocate resources efficiently.

Step Five – Evaluation of Talent Management Efforts

Evaluating the results of talent management program should be at the core of HRM activities. Appropriate evaluation is only possible when the program metrics are established at the time of setting initial strategic goals. Efforts can then be effectively put into action at finding out how many and how well individuals have been prepared to meet their initial goals.
