AM: Could you explain the overall importance of oral health?
DP: It covers the whole spectrum. The
most important point is the mortality
rates. The state of your gums reflects the
state of you heart. Studies have shown
us this over the past 20 years and I don’t
have to go any further that my family to
see that it is true. My father was a farmer
before he was a dentist, so he never got
any care and he was toothless by the age
of 45. At 65 he had to get a triple bypass.
My mother who is in her 6o’s just lost her
first tooth last year and he has never been
in the hospital ever.
I have a patient now. She is 90 years old
