A Torn Friendship Written by Noel Bass-Riley A 7-year-old Genevieve desperately clung to the back of her horse, tears streaming down her face. She had just wanted to go out for a ride on Rosie. She knew she wasn’t supposed to go out riding alone but everyone was too busy to listen or talk to her. The stable boy had protested saddling Rosie but when Genevieve had insisted, he just couldn't deny her. Her governess had always said that she had a face that the meanest grouch couldn’t say ‘no’ to. After around a mile of riding, a dog had barked and Rosie started. Genevieve couldn’t control her anymore. The horse had started to gallop at a speed that Genevieve had never ridden at before and she had started slipping from the saddle. Help me, she thought desperately. “Someone help me!” “Whoa there,” a voice said suddenly. “Calm down, dear.” A hand gently took the reins from her hand and pulled them. Rosie started to slow down and eventually stopped. Genevieve slowly opened her hazel eyes. “You alright, there?” a girl who looked about her age asked.
