Land Acquisition Bond Referendum on March 12, 2019 Ballot At its meeting on December 6, the Jupiter Town Council approved a resolution to place a Land Acquisition Bond Referendum on the ballot for the March 12, 2019 election. If approved by voters, the referendum would allow the Town to issue bonds not to exceed $20 million that would mature within 20 years from the date of issuance. Residents of the Town of Jupiter would see an annual increase in their tax bill to fund the debt, and the debt would not be issued all at once, but would be issued as properties were acquired. The properties purchased with the funds would need to fall into one of the following categories or uses: •  Environmentally sensitive, waterfront and recreational lands •  Lands for open spaces Many of these boards and committees have upcoming vacancies that will be filled through appointments by Town Council tentatively scheduled for the first Council meeting in April. •  Archeological or historic preservation To be considered for appointment, complete the online application found at www.jupiter.fl.us/committees. You can also print and mail a copy to the Town Clerk's Office at 210 Military Trail, Jupiter, Florida 33458. •  Incidental costs related to the lands acquired through the program (such as clearing exotic vegetation and creating public access) The deadline for applications for the April 2019 appointments is February 5, 2019. Any applications received after February 5 will be kept on file and considered for next year's appointments. For more details, call the Town Clerk at 561-741-2352. •  Traffic mitigation In 2004, Jupiter residents approved a similar referendum for $17 million authorizing the purchase of open space properties. That program resulted in the purchase of seven properties totalling to 59.9 acres of land, which is now managed and preserved by the Town’s Natural Resources group.
