TOWN OF JUPITER TOWN OF JUPITER RECREATION PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES RECREATION CONNECTION REC CONNECT Jupiter Community Center • 200 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458 VOL 25 NO 2 • APR-JUN 2018 NOTE FROM DIRECTOR INSIDE THIS ISSUE... In this edition of the Recreation Connection, you will notice the addition of a few new programs that our staff has been working on implementing based on public feedback and market research. Recreation staff members are always willing to listen to ideas and feedback from program participants on any improvements or changes that may be necessary to current programs, as well as potential new programs that may draw interest. One area of note is the programs we have for the teen population. YOUTH PROGRAMS ................................. 2-3 • • • • • • • • • Jupiter’s history with off ering programs for teens started in early 2000. The COAST (Creating Opportunities, Adventures and Sports for Teens) program for teens provided middle and high school age students a number of free and low-cost activities including day trips, drop in games, camps, special events and community service projects. My first job with the Town was as Teen Coordinator for the Recreation Department, and I implemented this program from its inception. Capturing the attention of teens is always challenging, and for various reasons we moved away from providing dedicated teen programs in the mid-2000’s. Today, we consistently see the teen population make good use of the Community Center, and have identified that there is once again a need to off er both structured and open recreational opportunities for them. Currently, staff members are hard at work meeting with a teen advisory group to gather ideas for upcoming activities and learn about what types of programs they would like to attend. As COAST is re-invented this spring, we are already planning a trip to RUSH Extreme Trampoline Park in Jensen Beach, movie nights at the Community Center, and the return of Teen Camp this summer. If you are a teen looking for something fun and adventurous to do in your community, you should join COAST. What is COAST? COAST is a program just for teens coordinated by the Town of Jupiter that provides activities teens would be interested in from trips to theme parks to dances. The best part of the program is that the teens involved choose the activities. Teens can attend COAST meetings where they brainstorm new ideas while enjoying free pizza. In addition to the fun adventures, COAST will also provide activities to help teens complete their community service hours. Join us for our upcoming COAST meetings at 6 pm on April 9 and May 14.
