World Tourism Day: Typical food, contests and conferences to celebrate

By Karen De Los Nuevos

last september, we celebrated the World Tourism Day. This year sustainable tourism has become the main reason to celebrate, which means that we can not forget four very important points of sustainable development: natural, politic, economic and social dimensions.

Students of the Bachelor in Tourism Business Administration showed students of other careers some important aspects that help tourism industry become one of the most important economic sectors in Cartagena de Indias. For example, we, 3rd semester students, had the oppportunity to show how people make money in Cartagena, through the most popular jobs and some aspects about the culture.

During this event, the asistants could see some stands where the students was selling local products such as butifarras, "fritos", mango, coconut water, raspado, "cocadas", "alegrías" (and other things that palenqueras used to sell). It was a representation of the culture and economic aspect.

Refering to the enviroment aspect, we were sharing a message about what do people have to do or not to do for the environment preservation.

Now we have to focus on sustainable tourism with the purpose of we all care the environment and the culture, for the future generations can enjoy it too.

Save the Earth because we only have one!
