Economic Impact of Papal Visit in Cartagena, a Conference in charge of Zully Salazar and Francisco Vergara

This post is about the impact of Holy’s Pope in Cartagena de Indias, a conversation that took place in the hall of the auditorium of Centro Colombo Americano. The participants were the Corpoturismo Executive President, Zully Salazar, and the Regional Director of ProColombia, Francisco Vergara. Adressed to the students of Administration Tourism and Hotel Management, this discussion was given in order to invite to analyze about the importance that events of this magnitude generate.

Corpoturismo,main organizer of the visit of the Pope in Cartagena, revealed that this important event has left incomes of approximately $222,000,000 millions pesos for a total of 16 billion pesos pesos distributed in accommodation, transportations, food, travel agencies, etc. This visit brought a lot of national and international tourists, there were a total of 100 passengers by land, 624 passengers by sea, 101 thousand tourists by air, there were 10% of foreign tourists, and the rest were national tourists. This means that the economy derived from this visit has its own dynamics because this great event allowed the economy to grow in a large scale generating profits to the entrepreneurs not only in Cartagena but also the whole country additional the city was recognized worldwide and this way other countries will bet to come to do business in the country and in this way the economy will increase and give more opportunities to the citizens.
