TOURISM TODAY

My name is Elkin Romero Prieto, I am a 9th semester student of Business in Tourism and Hospitality Management at Unicolombo. During the period January to May, I did my internship in the frame of the program “Manos a la Paz”, an initiative of Post-Conflict Ministry and the United Nations Development Program in Colombia (UNDP), in which, university students (7th - 9th semester) were chosen to do theirs internship out of the city where they live, and they have to go specifically to territory that was affected by armed conflict in Colombia. The main object of this program is contribute with our knowledge and professional profile to the construction of a sustainability peace in the country.

I did my internship for 4 months at Villavicencio ─ Meta, supporting the project Economic Development Inclusive in the Green Business Inclusive at Cormacarena. Besides that, I supported UNDP office in different activities. During the period of time where I did this process, I did many activities related to the project like: reading information about green business; created ecologic – innovate propose for Cormacarena; go to the Green Business Inclusive Committee; support in the creation of a green guarantee for Cormacarena; logistical support to the event of socialization and training of the new police code; update Villavicencio green business database and classification; logistic support to the Seminary scenario of opportunities for Agribusiness and Local Development; logistic support to children's day that took place in Brisas del Guatiquia and San José, neighborhoods; visit to the company Ecoturismo Sierra de la Macarena in Villavicencio, day of employability and entrepreneurship in the neighborhoods Girasol and Uniportales, day of legalization of the Topacio neighborhood.

During this internship at Villavicencio I had the opportunity to share knowledge and experience with 11 students from different cities of Colombia like: Barranquilla, Cali, Palmira, Ibague, Popayan, Pasto, Bogotá, Medellin, and Pereira, I will always be grateful with them my new family, the cultural exchange with them was amazing with this experience you growth like professional but more in your personal aspect, on the other hand know the culture and reality from another zone of the country let you identify a reality unknown for many people.
