Land of Lemurs , Opening July 2017 Make way for the lemurs ! From the island of Madagascar off the east coast of the African continent to the island of St . George in the Bow River , the spritely primates will be taking up residence in the brand new Land of Lemurs walkthrough exhibit . The enclosure will take advantage of the wooded area at the eastern tip of the zoo , so the lemurs can climb and play to their hearts ’ content in the trees which visitors observe from the pathways . The habitat aims to educate visitors about the plight of the lemur — of the 103 lemur species on the planet , more than 90 per cent are at risk of extinction , which is why the Calgary Zoo is expanding its conservation focus to Madagascar in an effort to help one of the world ’ s most endangered primates .

North of Ordinary : The Arctic Photographs of Geraldine and Douglas Moodie Through September 10 Drawing from an extraordinary donation of nearly 500 vintage photographs , as well as diaries , reports , and photo registers , this exhibition celebrates the work of Canada ’ s first professional woman photographer , Geraldine Moodie . Beginning in 1903 , Moodie accompanied her husband Douglas , a senior officer of the North West Mounted Police , on expeditions to the NWMP detachment at Fullerton Harbour in Hudson Bay . She took intimate portraits of the local Inuit community while he ( trained in photography by his wife ) documented the landscape and his work with the Mounted Police . Because of the wealth of written records that were donated with the negatives , the Glenbow museum has the rare opportunity to describe the couples ’ work in their own words . calgary . be part of the energy . visitcalgary . com
