Sidewalk Citizen Bakery serves freshly-baked breads and sweets , along with Mediterraneaninspired pizzas , sandwiches , and salads . Charbar , a contemporary , family-friendly Argentinian restaurant , serves seafood , steaks , thick-crust pizzas , and has a rooftop patio with unparalleled views of the downtown skyline and the Bow River . Just a few steps away from the Simmons building is Mari Bakeshop ( 2 ), a cute bakery that serves baked goods , coffee , and sandwiches on fresh bread .

Their neighbour , Fort Calgary ( 5 ), is a historic site and the birthplace of Calgary , where history buffs can explore the city ’ s past through interpretive displays and artifacts . A short jaunt across the George C . King Bridge is St . Patrick ’ s Island ( 6 ), an outdoor paradise on the Bow River featuring walking paths , a wading pool , and a picnic grove .
