July 7 - 16 Every year the evening grandstand show at the Calgary Stampede is raved about by awestruck viewers , but this year will be bigger and better than ever before . Producer Dave Pierce — who won an Emmy award for composing the ceremonies music at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver — has created a showstopping production with a Canada 150 theme hosted by Calgary ' s own Jann Arden , a singer with international acclaim . Get ready for music , dancing , fireworks , and a few special surprises .

August 15 - 26 Celebrating its 15th anniversary and Canada ’ s 150th , GlobalFest is switching from international displays to a Canadaonly focus for 2017 . Each night of the festival there will be an elaborate themed fireworks display , choreographed to regional music , as well as food and activities related to Western Canada , the Prairies , Ontario , Quebec , and Atlantic Canada .

As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of confederation , it ’ s important to consider the history of the First Nations people who were in this country long before confederation . Learn about the history of the Blackfoot people by enjoying a cultural adventure at this UNESCO World Heritage Site an hour-and-ahalf drive from Calgary . Go back to a time where wild buffalo roamed the prairies and experience the ways of the buffalo hunt first hand by taking part in a traditional Blackfoot blessing , taste dried buffalo meat , and experience a re-enactment of the buffalo jump . Test your accuracy with an ancient spear thrower and take home your own arrowhead . Visit on June 21 for National Aboriginal Day and enjoy a day of special events and extra programming .
