Celebrate canada 150 in Calgary

CANADA DAY
June 30 - July 1 This year ’ s celebrations are going to be so big , Calgary needs two days to fit them all in ! Enjoy a full weekend of festivities around the city , with the majority of events taking place downtown and along the Bow River . The festivities start on June 30 with a pow-wow at Prince ’ s Island
Park , as well as a celebration of contemporary music and dance . On July 1 be prepared to party from dawn until midnight ! Start the day at Fort Calgary for a classic pancake breakfast at 8 a . m ., and then walk along the riverfront with the whole family . There will be live music , food trucks , military showcases , the return of the Living Flag , and more activities that celebrate different cultures . Finish off your night with a firework show from the Centre Street Bridge that will be bigger and better than ever before !
2017 is one big party for Canada as the country celebrates its sesquicentennial . Here are some ways to join in on the fun in Calgary .
CALGARY ROUGHNECKS , NATIONAL LACROSSE LEAGUE
A great way to celebrate Canada ’ s 150th birthday is by attending a professional lacrosse game at the Scotiabank Saddledome to cheer on the Calgary Roughnecks . Lacrosse is considered to be Canada ’ s national summer sport . It was first popularized in Montreal and is based on an Aboriginal game that has been around for thousands of years . Canada has four teams in the league who play regular season games between January and April .
ALBERTA BALLET ' S OUR CANADA
May 4 - 6 Canada ’ s second largest dance company celebrates Canada 150 with a brand new , original production featuring costumes and dance styles from across Canada , set to the music of renowned Canadian musician Gordon Lightfoot .
SCOTIABANK CALGARY MARATHON
May 25 - 28 This annual marathon is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon and attracts thousands of participants each year . It will celebrate Canada ’ s 150th anniversary with the Coast-to- Coast-to-Coast route , which pays tribute to each province and territory of Canada with 13 " party zones ," each consisting of region-specific activities , food , and music . Be sure to attend whether you ’ re racing or not , as this year has more in store for spectators than ever before .
HERITAGE PARK HISTORICAL VILLAGE
July 1 - August 31 Heritage Park will celebrate Canada ’ s 150th anniversary with the restoration of one of the country ’ s national treasures — a 1905 wooden Colonist Rail Car ( one of only two left in the country ) that played a major role in the settlement of Western Canada . In an exhibition called Journey of a Lifetime , visitors can watch the restoration process along with an interactive and immersive exhibit and a bilingual play that will bring the settler experience to life . On Canada Day , July 1 , Heritage Park also hosts a number of activities including a citizenship ceremony , a pancake breakfast , and birthday cake .
